Two students from the Research Group of Biology of Harmful Algae, Institute of Hydrobiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IHB) participated in the 2010 Cruise Survey over the South China Sea funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC).

The 2010 Cruise Survey, funded for the first time by NSFC, included multidisciplinary research projects. The thirty-two-day course started on April 24 and returned on May 25. The whole voyage covered 16 sea sections and 89 observation stations, stretching from northern part of South China Sea to the region of 8° North Latitude. This survey is one of the few attempts to access to the whole sea area of South China Sea.

Research Group of Biology of Harmful Algae in the institute already participated in the Cruise Survey over the South China Sea for three consecutive times, and is now performing the NSFC funded research on "the molecular diversity and detection of Trichodesmium(Cyanobacteria)”.
