IHB Professors Present at the 1st International Symposium on Biology and Aquaculture of Commercially Important Crabs
IHB Prof. Jiashou LIU (L) and IHB doctoral student Xiaowu LI made presentations at the first International Symposium on Biology and Aquaculture of Commercially Important Crabs held from Nov. 8 to 11 at Shanghai Ocean University.
The first International Symposium on Biology and Aquaculture of Commercially Important Crabs, hosted by Chinese Crustacean Society and Shanghai Ocean University was held from Nov. 8 to 11 at Shanghai Ocean University. About 120 representatives from countries such as China, America, Great Britain, Japan, Thailand, Australia, Argentina, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, India, Singapore, Spain, Bangladesh, Philippines, Ethiopia and Vietnam had an extensive and in-depth communication covering topics including crab biology and physiology, broodstock, hatchery and larval culture, nursery and grow-out, disease and nutrition, genetics and selective breeding, fisheries, stock enhancement and resource management, and crab processing and marketing. IHB Prof. Jiashou LIU made presentation entitled “Advances in precocity research of the Chinese mitten crab Eriocheir sinensis” while IHB doctoral student Xiaowu LI made presentation entitled “Effects of light intensity on molting, growth, precocity, digestive enzyme activity and chemical composition of juvenile Chinese mitten crab Eriocheir sinensis”. Later, field trips to crab farms was organized to give participants a first hand experience on the aquaculture of Chinese mitten crab Eriocheir sinensis in Yangcheng Lake, a well-known fresh-water lake in northeast of Suzhou, Jiangsu province.
