IHB Professor Attends 9th International Marine Biotechnology Conference
The 9th International Marine Biotechnology Conference was held in Qingdao during Sept. 9 and 12, gathering more than 600 scholars from all around the world. The conference covered a wide variety of topics including sustainable aquaculture, algal biotechnology, marine microbiology, extremophiles, marine organismal molecular biology and biotechnology, omics in marine biotechnology, marine bioactive compounds, marine bioproduct, biotic carbon sequestration etc.
IHB Prof. ZHU Zuoyan, also CAS academician, attended the 9th International Marine Biotechnology Conference held in Qingdao during Sept. 9 and 12, 2010.
ZHU Zuoyan, Professor of Institute of Hydrobiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IHB) and academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, attended the conference as special invited guest. He made a keynote speech entitled "Development of Transgenic Fish in China”. In the presentation, Prof. Zhu reviewed the birth of transgenic fish in China and its development both at home and abroad, introduced the current research status of transgenic fish breeding both at home and abroad, systematically presented the latest achievements in the generation of "all fish” growth hormone transgenic common carp, food safety, population fitness evaluation and ecological risks management strategies etc., and pointed out the prospect of transgenic fish breeding. Prof. Zhu’s presentation gained close attention of the conference participants and colleagues in the relevant fields.
The International Marine Biotechnology Conference is the highest-level and largest-scale conference in the marine biotechnology field. The first International Marine Biotechnology Conference was held in Tokyo, Japan in 1989. Later it was subsequently held in the United States, Norway, Italy, Australia, Japan, Canada and Israel.
