On December 21, a three-member delegation consisting of HU Qiang, Professor of Arizona State University, Prof. Gwang-hoon Kim, vice-president of Korean Society of Phycology, and Prof. Choul-gyun Lee, head of Institute of Industrial Biotechnology, Inha University, paid a visit to Institute of Hydrobiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IHB).
Prof. Gwang-hoon Kim made an oral presentation entitled "Wound response of a green alga, Bryopsis plumosa; a model system for cell biological and evolutionary studies”. He systematically elucidated the process of the regeneration of cell membrane from the exposed protoplast after Bryopsis plumose are injured in the sea water. He also vividly introduced sea slug’s ability to convert sonar power into nutrients by preying on Bryopsis plumose.

Prof. Choul-gyun Lee’s oral presentation, which was entitled “Photobioreactor design and optimization for bioactive compound production”, introduced the application of photobioreactor on algal cultivation.
Prof. HU Qiang chaired the seminar following up with the two presentations. Scholars and students shared their research experiences and answered several confusing questions raised by the audience.
