Prof. Martin Sondergaard from Denmark Visits IHB
Prof. Martin SØndergaard paid a visit to Institute of Hydrobiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IHB) on Oct 10.
Prof. Martin SØndergaard, a well-know Danish ecologist, paid a visit to Institute of Hydrobiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IHB) on Oct 10. During his visit, he delivered a lecture entitled “The European Water Framework Directive and lake management” to the IHB audience.
Prof. SØndergaard introduced the European Water Framework Directive, the geographic conditions of Lakes in Denmark, and approaches of health assessment of lakes. He also introduced how the researchers use the approaches to evaluate the health status of lakes in Denmark. In the meantime, Prof. SØndergaard introduced the indicators of health status of lakes, e.g. phytoplankton, benthos, submerged macrophytec, fish etc.
IHB honorary director Prof. Liu Jiankang (CAS academician) and researchers and students from relevant research groups were present at the lecture and interacted with Prof. SØndergaard on the options of health assessment approaches of lakes and the control and treatment of agricultural waste water.
Martin SØndergaard is Professor of Aarhus University in Denmark. He has been engaged in the studies of freshwater ecology and its application.
