Delegation from Israel Visits IHB

 
 The Israeli delegation visits the Freshwater Algae Culture Collection at IHB, Jan. 16.
 

In the interest of seeking cooperative partnership in aquaculture, a five-member delegation from Israel paid a visit to Institute of Hydrobiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IHB) on Jan. 16. The delegation consisted of Prof. Sheenan Harpaz from the Volcani Center, Agricultural Research Organization (ARO), Mr. Justin Lubin from AquaGreen and Mr. Rafi Nevo from Shirat Enterprises Ltd.  

Prof. Sheenan Harpaz introduced the background information of the Volcani Center, ARO. He specifically introduced the application of transgenic algae in tilapia feed and identification of all male tilapia. Mr. Jacob Mualem, director of R&D Application and Technology Transfer at ARO, presented the achievements in the technology transfer at ARO. Mr. Rafi Nevo introduced several ecological and aquatic enterprises located in Israel, including Aquapro Technologies Ltd. which is startup company developing probiotic feed additives for the aquaculture industry and Aquavet Technologies Ltd. which enjoys an international reputation based on its expertise in fish diseases and health care, optimal fish farming conditions, relations between fish farming and environmental issues, and business issues related to the aquaculture industry. Mr. Justin Lubin from AquaGreen introduced their zero discharge aquaculture system. 

Later, both sides had an in-depth discussion on issues regarding aquaculture, algae fuel and technology transfer. The visiting delegation also visited some of the labs in the institute.
