IHB Prof. WANG Ding Attend Annual Meeting of the IWC Scientific Committee

 
Prof. WANG Ding from Institute of Hydrobiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IHB) attended the Annual Meeting of the IWC Scientific Committee from May 22 to June 3, 2015. 
 

Prof. WANG Ding from Institute of Hydrobiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IHB) attended the Annual Meeting of the IWC Scientific Committee which was held at the Marriott Marquis Hotel and Conference Center at San Diego Marina from May 22 to June 3, 2015. Prof. Wang is also a member of the Cetacean Specialist Group of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and President of Wuhan Baiji Conservation Foundation.    

At the annual meeting, Prof. Wang introduced the conservation status of the Yangtze finless porpoises with details. Chinese government, as well as the conservation zones and IHB researchers have put much effort in saving the endangered species. In the annual report released by the IWC Scientific Committee, the research made in the conservation of the Yangtze finless porpoises was highly commended.    

At the discussion session of the annual experts committee of the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, attendees discussed the endangered situation of the Yangtze finless porpoises and the humpback dolphins. They also proposed the ranking system of endangered species to the IUCN.
