Prof. XIE Shouqi addressed at the welcome banquet.

The 17th International Symposium on River and Lake Environment and 3^rd International Symposium on Aquatic Botany were held during March 26 and 29, March, 2017 in Biwako Kusatsu Campus of Ritsumeikan University, Shiga, Japan. More than 200 researchers from China, Japan, South Korea, America and Thailand attended both symposiums.    

Ten researchers from Institute of Hydrobiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IHB) attended the symposiums. Prof. XIE Shouqi addressed at the welcome banquet. Prof. LI Renhui gave a keynote presentation with the title of “Cylindrospermopsis species exhibited to expand in China and did not support the biogeographic pattern worldwide” at the opening ceremony. Other IHB researchers and students gave oral presentations respectively.    

IHB researchers presented the latest research achievements in the relationship between China’s fishery condition and environment, algae utilization and control, water environment protection of rivers and lakes, restoration of aquatic plants.    

On March 29, Prof. XIE Shouqi, Prof. LI Renhui and Associate Prof. WANG Haiju had a field trip with other international attendees to the Lake Biwa. They also had a brief talking with Toru Shinohara, director general of the Lake Biwa Museum. At the closing ceremony, IHB students LIAO Chuansong and YUAN Ting were honored with the best oral presentation awards.    

The International Symposium on River and Lake Environment was launched in 1984 and is held every two or three year. It is the most important freshwater ecology forum in Eastern Asia. Its impact has spread to the whole Asian and even the world in recent years. IHB was one of the organizers and successfully organized four symposiums in 1996, 1998, 2004 and 2012. The 18^th International Symposium on River and Lake Environment will be held in 2020 and the 19^th International Symposium on River and Lake Environment will be organized by IHB.  

Prof. LI Renhui gave a keynote presentation.

IHB students LIAO Chuansong and YUAN Ting were honored with the best oral presentation awards.

IHB participants had a field trip with other international attendees to the Lake Biwa.
