Assistant Prof. Jan Mennigen from University of Ottawa gave a speech at the workshop on fish nutrition and endocrinology on August 25, 2017.  

The workshop on fish nutrition and endocrinology was held at Institute of Hydrobiology (IHB) of Chinese Academy of Sciences on August 25, 2017. Researchers from labs of Prof. XIE Shouqi, Prof. YIN Zhan and Prof. XIAO Wuhan and Assistant Prof. Jan Mennigen from University of Ottawa attended the workshop.  

During the workshop, Dr. Jan Mennigen gave a speech with the title of “Comparative physiology of teleost metabolism: Novel mechanisms and disruption by contaminants”. He introduced the regulation of miRNA on energy metabolism and future study in the rainbow trout and zebrafish. Prof. YIN Zhan gave a presentation with title of “Fatty acid oxidation in zebrafish adipose tissue is promoted by 1α, 25(OH)₂D₃”. He found CYP2R1 is responsible for activating vitamin D₃ and 1α, 25(OH)₂D₃ can promote fatty acids oxidation in the viscera of zebrafish. Moreover, Associate Prof. JIN Junyan, Dr. candidates TAO Binbin, XU Wenjie, YU Guangqing and YANG Binyuan also gave oral presentations, respectively. 

Dr. Jan Mennigen is the leader of comparative physiology group of University of Ottawa. He focuses on comparative study on energy utilization in fish recently. Dr. Jan’s visit to IHB is to seek cooperation on fish nutrition with Prof. XIE Shouqi’s lab.
