Dr. Tamar Zohary from Israel Oceanographic and Limnological Research Institute visited Institute of Hydrobiology (IHB) of Chinese Academy of Sciences from November 29 to December 3, 2017. She gave a presentation with the title of “PlanktoMetrix – a software for counting and sizing plankton - and its application in ecological studies” at IHB.
In her presentation, she introduced the details of the software PlanktoMetrix which integrated functions including cell/colony counting, size measuring, biomass computation, data input and storage for phytoplankton and zooplankton analyses via the real-time digital images from microscope. After the lecture, Dr. Zohary conducted a training course and demonstrated the operations, methods and regulations of PlanktoMetrix to the students. IHB scientists and students further discussed with Dr. Zohary regarding issues related to the interests and development of PlanktoMetrix.
Dr. Tamar Zohary exchanged research ideas on this software with colleagues from IHB and achieved a preliminary intention of cooperation on the protection and restoration of aquatic ecosystem with relevant laboratories of IHB.
