Prof. DONG Shuanglin from Ocean University of China Visits IHB

 

Prof. DONG Shuanglin from Ocean University of China paid a visit to IHB on March 27, 2018.  

On March 27, 2018, Prof. DONG Shuanglin from Ocean University of China paid a visit to Institute of Hydrobiology (IHB) of Chinese Academy of Sciences and gave a lecture with the title of “Environmental storm, ocean supervision-challenges and opportunities for Aquaculture”. 

Prof. Dong introduced the challenges and opportunities that aquaculture faced from two aspects: the dilemma of the classical recirculating aquaculture model and the traditional cultural basis of sustainable development. He then discussed the current situation of world aquaculture and compared the gap between China and foreign countries. He proposed his thinking, i.e. how to develop aquaculture in the future with the responsibility of quality improvement, energy saving and emission reduction.  

Prof. Dong explained the aquaculture model of ecological intensification combined with the research that using cold water of the Yellow Sea to carry out the deep marine aquaculture of high quality salmons. He put forward a new possible direction for the future development model of aquaculture in China. 

Prof. Dong Shuanglin, who has been engaged in aquaculture research for more than 30 years, served as vice president of Ocean University of China and vice chairman of the China Society of Fisheries. He has completed many projects such as key projects in the national science and technology, "973 Program" and "863 Program". He was awarded the second prize of National Science and Technology Progress in 2012.
