LIU Jian, deputy director general of CAS Bureau of Science Communication, gave remarks during his visit at IHB, March 28, 2019.   

A six-member delegation led by LIU Jian, deputy director general of Bureau of Science Communication under Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), paid a visit to Institute of Hydrobiology (IHB) of CAS during March 28 and 30, 2019. LI Jing, vice president of CAS Beijing Branch, was with the delegation.    

IHB’s deputy director HU Wei welcomed the visiting delegation. HE Feng, head of Office of Research and Technology Development at IHB, introduced the overview of the institute. Both sides had in-depth exchange of views on the work of science communication, especially the topic selection and submission of information to the government.    

In his closing remarks, Liu proposed five suggestions on science communication: One is to serve the state’s need and decision. Relying on the disciplines strengths and resorting to the strategic development view, a strategic report on the protection, development and utilization of water resources should be formed.    

Two is to focus on the key issues of promoting research. Taking advantages of the first anniversary of President XI Jinping's visit to the Yangtze River and his important speech delivered at the Symposium on In-depth Promotion of Development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt, the relevant achievements of the past year shall be displayed and the government information can be used to promote the development of the institute.   

Three is to fully take advantage of all the platforms of IHB to further push forward the work of WeChat public account and shooting short video.    

Four is to carry forward the spirit of science. Relying on the profound historical and cultural deposits, on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the establishment of IHB in 2020, a group of scientific masters will be introduced to the public to display the scientific spirit of IHB.    

Five is to actively respond to social concerns. For genetically modified food and other hot issues, IHB scientists shall take their responsibility to tell the truth to the public.
