The Institute of Hydrobiology (IHB) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences held the laboratory safety training course on November 9, 2021. More than 70 people in the institute attended the course.    

The training course consisted of five sections – laboratory safety management, hazard identification and risk assessment, supervision of special equipment, laboratory biosafety and network threats and countermeasures.    

After this training course, the institute will develop a better management system and risk monitoring for hazardous chemicals in the laboratory, set up and improve an early detection and monitoring system, protect against major security threats, and develop and improve a procedure for dealing with hidden dangers and incidents.    

Besides, a reward and punishment mechanism will be developed to consolidate the responsibility for safety risk management.   

In addition to this training course, the institute conducted a fire drill on June 28 and held a lecture to raise awareness about the laboratory safety to the faculty and students on Sept. 24.
