The editorial boards of the two journals - ACTA Hydrobiologica Sinica and Water Biology and Security (WBS), organized a meeting on December 30, 2021 for authors, readers and editors to share their insights and exchange views on writing and publishing papers. More than 260 experts and scholars attended the meetings from both online and offline venues.

Prof. HE Shunping, a member of the editorial board of both the two journals, gave a presentation to reflect the research work from the perspective of paper publications. He shared the dedication values of the older generations, and based on his own research experience, he proposed that scientific research is not speculation but an investment which requires a lifetime of perseverance.

Another member of both editorial boards, Prof. WANG Hongzhu, offered his initial review criteria for manuscripts and answered questions from online attendees. LI Guowen, a senior engineer who received the best paper award of the ACTA Hydrobiologica Sinica, gave a presentation on how to combine the topic of the paper with national needs, and shared his experience with submitting and writing articles.

DU Xinzheng, associate editor of ACTA Hydrobiologica Sinica, gave a presentation to introduce the writing standards of Chinese research papers and the paper submitting to the journal.

Dr. LIU Rui, editorial office manager of the WBS, gave a presentation titled "What you don't know about the publication of papers - English research paper writing standards and introduction to WBS". She discussed how to write, submit, and publish papers from the perspectives of authors, editors, external reviewers, and editors-in-chief, as well as the basics of English paper writing.

The meeting built a bridge between authors, readers and editors. The two journals will continue to contribute to the development of aquatic biology as a platform for knowledge dissemination and communication.
