Prof. DAI Jiayin from Shanghai Jiao Tong University was invited to the Institute of Hydrobiology (IHB) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences for an academic exchange, where he delivered a lecture titled "Health Effects of New Pollutants and Scientific Alternatives."
During the lecture, Professor Dai Jiayin systematically introduced the research progress on novel perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances from the aspects of environmental concentration monitoring, human health effects, and potential toxicological mechanisms. He emphasized that the health hazards of alternative substances should not be ignored.
Furthermore, based on years of systematic research, Prof. Dai established a structure-activity relationship between the chemical structures and biological toxicity of new pollutants and substitutes. This provides insights for the development of green and low-toxicity chemicals, thereby avoiding the vicious cycle of pollution-control-repollution-recontrol.
Prof. Dai is a recipient of the National Distinguished Young Scientist Foundation. He has successively led research projects including the National Natural Science Distinguished Young Scholar Program, key projects, major international cooperation projects, key projects of regional joint funds, 973 projects, and key research and development programs. Currently, he serves as the Associate Editor of Chemical Research in Toxicology and Environmental Pollution, two prestigious journals published by the American Chemical Society.
