President of Dalian Ocean University Visits IHB

SONG Linsheng, president of Dalian Ocean University, along with WANG Wei, dean of the university’s Graduate School, and HUO Zhongming, associate dean of the School of Fisheries and Life Sciences, visited Institute of Hydrobiology (IHB) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences on October 9, 2023.  

ZHAO Donghui who’s in charge of joint training at the Office of Graduate Education at IHB, introduced the basic situation of the jointly trained master's students between Dalian Ocean University and the Institute of Hydrobiology. This included the students' learning, living, research, employment situations, as well as scholarship, accommodation, and insurance systems. 

Representing the freshman class of 2023, YAO Lei shared her experiences of preparing for postgraduate studies during the pandemic and her insights since enrollment. She emphasized the need to adapt actively to the new environment and quickly enter a good state of study and research. NIU Junsheng, a representative of the 2021 class, briefly discussed his research topic, highlighting the coexistence of opportunities and challenges in the research journey. He conveyed valuable learning and research experiences to fellow students. 

MIAO Wei, deputy director of IHB, presented the "IHB Chronicle" to the representatives of the jointly trained students. President SONG Linsheng adorned the representatives with the emblem of Dalian Ocean University. 

During the discussion and exchange session, leaders from both sides proposed constructive suggestions for further strengthening the training efforts for jointly trained students. They discussed new initiatives that would be more conducive to the development of the students and mutually beneficial. The leaders also addressed and discussed issues raised by the jointly trained students regarding academics, life, and other matters, expressing their commitment to meeting the students' needs. 

Deputy Director MIAO Wei expressed anticipation for the continued improvement of cooperation between the two institutions and proposed ways to enhance collaborative exchanges in the future. He assured that the institute would do its best to provide a favorable environment and infrastructure for the jointly trained students, encouraging them to make the most of resources and opportunities to develop and achieve success. 

President SONG Linsheng expressed gratitude to the Institute of Hydrobiology for providing a robust platform for research and learning for the jointly trained students. He advised graduate students to read extensively, engage in practical experiences, and become competent and responsible professionals in the field of fisheries.
