On the morning of October 18th, Prof. XING Yaowu from the Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden of the Chinese Academy of Sciences was invited to the Institute of Hydrobiology (IHB) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences for an academic exchange. He presented a lecture on the evolution and adaptation research on alpine plant diversity.
Biodiversity distribution patterns and influencing factors have long been central issues in biogeographical research. Prof. Xing analyzed the uneven distribution of biodiversity patterns in North Temperate Zone mountains from both external and internal perspectives. Through two case studies, he highlighted the crucial role of transverse mountain ranges in the formation of biodiversity patterns in North Temperate Zone mountains.
Xing emphasized that transverse mountain ranges would become a focal point in temperate mountain biodiversity research, pointing out the role of polyploidy in mountain species diversity.
Prof. Xing currently serves as the deputy director of the Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He is recognized as an Outstanding Young Scholar by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and has been selected for various national talent support programs.
He has published a series of papers in journals such as Science, PNAS, and Systematic Biology. Additionally, he serves as an editorial board member for journals like Plant Diversity, Ecology and Evolution, and Integrative Conservation.
