With International Archives Day just around the corner, the Institute of Hydrobiology (IHB), Chinese Academy of Sciences, held a specialized training session on archival management on the afternoon of June 4, 2026. The event was designed to promote standardized archival practices, support the rollout of a new digital archives system, and strengthen the institute's capacity for information-based archival management. Researchers and staff from multiple research groups turned out for the session.
The training featured Mr. TAN Mingliang, an archivist from the Comprehensive Archives of the Northwest Institute of Eco-Environment and Resources, Chinese Academy of Sciences, as the keynote instructor.
With a strong focus on practical, frontline research needs, the session centered on two core areas. Mr. Tan first delivered a detailed, step-by-step demonstration of the digital archive transfer and submission system, walking participants through operational workflows, upload protocols, review criteria, and solutions to common problems, all within the framework of major research initiative archiving requirements.
He then introduced the key functions of IHB's new digital archives platform, covering permission management, online archiving, document retrieval, and system maintenance, and devoted ample time to live system demonstrations.
Attendees brought their own laptops for hands-on practice, and Mr. Tan addressed individual questions on the spot, fostering an engaged and productive learning atmosphere that drew positive feedback from participants.
With this training, IHB has taken a significant step toward bringing its new digital archives system fully online. The hands-on session sharpened staff skills and clarified best practices, setting the stage for more consistent and efficient archiving across the institute. Going forward, IHB plans to build on this momentum as it continues to modernize its research records management.
